West Ham fans react to Tarkowski report

West Ham fans have been weighing in on a report from Football Insider which claims that James Tarkowski would ‘jump at the chance’ to sign for the London-based club this summer.

The Hammers went to great lengths to try and sign the Burnley centre-back in the 2020 summer window.

They tabled three bids for the Englishman, the last of which was £31million, but that still fell short of the Clarets’ asking price.

Now, however, Tarkowski only has just over a year remaining on his Burnley contract, placing the club under pressure.

They know that if he refuses to sign an extension, that he could walk away on a free transfer in 2022.

Tarkowski an option for West Ham once again

David Moyes’ side are said to have renewed their interest in signing Tarkowski, having identified a top centre-half as a priority.

Another potential option for the Irons is Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car, currently on Euro 2020 duty with Croatia.

Fan feed West Ham Central relayed the Tarkowski report, and here’s how supporters reacted.

Tarkowski to West Ham update receives cold response

“I’m sure he would jump at the chance. He didn’t want us when we had just finished 16th though, did he? A year older, I wouldn’t pay any more than £15m for him. Tempted to just let him rot at Burnley though, tbh.”

“Rather Caleta-Car personally for around £15m, leaves more money to put to better use for Jesse & a striker”

La Liga expert claims Wolves would be a good level for Trincao

Bruno Lage is currently getting comfortable at Molineux and will begin to make additions to his squad in the near future, and someone who could prove to be a solid piece of business is Francisco Trincao from Barcelona, according to La Liga expert Euan McTear.

Trincao was only signed from Braga last summer for £27 million but after being handed just three La Liga starts, the Catalan club appear to be willing to let him leave, even if it one for one season to reduce their wage bill.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that he could be a Wolves target, and he would fit the bill as he is a young Portuguese star and despite his age, is already a full international. If Lage wants to play 4-4-2 next season then he would likely want to have a strong depth of wingers to offer skill and brilliance both from the start and off the bench.

After being signed for big money last summer, especially for a club struggling financially, Barcelona may see this as an opportunity to get rid of Trincao and Wolves could be a good level for the 21-year old, something McTear spoke exclusively to Football FanCast about:

“I think Wolves is probably his level, Barcelona is not his level. He has to leave and go somewhere where he’s going to play.

“Barcelona is not the level for him and Wolves is maybe a bit below his level so, it could be a good move for him and Wolves.”

Some fans and players in England may already be familiar with Trincao as he scored against England’s under 21s earlier this year in the European Championships as he netted a game-winning penalty in the 2-0 victory for Portugal.

Barcelona are set to make their third free-agent signing of the summer in Memphis Depay who is set to link up with fellow countrymen Ronald Koeman but if they want to make any cash signings, they may have to sell some of their big earners before they buy and Trincao could certainly be someone sacrificed.

Bevan, Martyn guide Australia home

COLOMBO, Sept 12 AAP – Michael Bevan and Damien Martyn got much-needed boosts as Australia beat the West Indies by six wickets in a practice match ahead of the Champions Trophy cricket tournament.

Michael Donaldson12-Sep-2002COLOMBO, Sept 12 AAP – Michael Bevan and Damien Martyn got much-needed boosts as Australia beat the West Indies by six wickets in a practice match ahead of the Champions Trophy cricket tournament.Martyn made 82 not out and Bevan was 53 not out as Australia made 4-265 in 48.5 overs to surpass the West Indies’ total of 5-261.The match was played at the informal Police Sports Ground in Colombo, where the outfield is sandy and bare, the boundaries short and the pitch dull.Australia didn’t use Glenn McGrath, who had a stomach upset, and Brett Lee, who had a virus.Andy Bichel took 3-50 off seven overs and Shane Warne bowled well to take 1-17 off six overs while Darren Lehmann, in his first game back since breaking a finger, took 0-35 in eight overs.Starring for the Windies was Ramnaresh Sarwan, who cracked an unbeaten 72, while Chris Gayle made 45 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul made 56 before retiring.Australia’s batsman all had a good hit, barring the in-form Matthew Hayden, who made three.Adam Gilchrist (42), Ricky Ponting (27) and Lehmann (34) all had solid knocks before Martyn and Bevan guided Australia to victory.Martyn faced 88 balls for his 82 and hit nine fours while Bevan hit eight boundaries in his 60-ball innings.Martyn had been frustrated by his lack of time in the middle in Kenya and needed to have a long stint at the crease, while Bevan had also played only short innings in Kenya.Lehmann’s performance should be enough to convince selectors to recall him to the team at the expense of Jimmy Maher.Lehmann’s advantage lies in his ability to play spin bowling and to also contribute with the ball, bowling his difficult left-arm orthodox spin.Australia plays New Zealand on Sunday while the tournament gets underway today with Sri Lanka against Pakistan.

Villa handed Oriol Romeu transfer update

Ashley Preece has dropped a major transfer update on Aston Villa target Oriol Romeu.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent days have suggested that the Spaniard has emerged as a potential option for Dean Smith’s side this summer, and the Birmingham Mail’s Preece has delivered an insight into where things stand right now.

He said: “Yes, to a central defender, one who will be happy to play second-fiddle to Konsa. I’ve seen that Romeu report, he’s one that Smith likes. Personally, I think he’s exactly what Villa need. No talks re him, though, sadly.”

Villa need him

The 1.83m (6 foot) ace is a dominant holding midfielder who would represent a major upgrade on Marvelous Nakamba in that anchorman role – in fact, as per Whoscored, the 29-year-old’s average of 3.3 tackles per game in the Premier League last season ranked him joint-third in the entire top flight.

The Spaniard also averaged 1.4 interceptions per game, numbers which are far better than any of Smith’s current options at Villa Park – Nakamba being the closest Villa player to the Saints man, managing just 1.7 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per match.

When asked about Romeu’s performance against West Brom in a 2-0 win earlier last season, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “When you see him as a professional, how he reacts when he is not first-choice, he’s one of the most professional guys I’ve ever seen.

“Sometimes he is under the radar because he makes the work nobody wants to do – closing the gaps, closing the space, winning duels, being everywhere and when he is in the moment when he can score, it is unbelievable for him.”

Given his ability to win the ball back so well, and the fact that he’s Premier League proven in his time with both Chelsea and Southampton, Romeu is someone who Villa badly need to reinforce the holding midfield position this summer.

Meanwhile, Gregg Evans has dropped a major Aston Villa transfer update…

Pete Trego signs two year deal with Kent

Somerset all rounder Pete Trego finally put an end to the speculation about his future at the County Ground when he told me this afternoon that he has signed a two year deal with First Division Kent

Richard Walsh25-Oct-2002Somerset all rounder Pete Trego finally put an end to the speculation about his future at the County Ground when he told me this afternoon that he has signed a two year deal with First Division Kent.He told me: "This is a great opportunity for me to fulfil what I have started at Somerset, and I am moving to Kent with the intention of filling the vacancy left by all rounder Matthew Fleming."The twenty one year old who hails from Weston super Mare made his debut for the Cidermen in 2000 but has been unable to hold down a first team place, despite some good performances for the seconds with both bat and ball, including an impressive 140 against West Indies A this season. He continued: " I really wanted to play cricket for my home county, but I feel that this is an opportunity for me to further my career and I have to take it. I hate leaving Somerset but I have to think of my future."But the young all rounder has no hard feelings about the way that he has been treated and went on: "Somerset chief executive Peter Anderson and Kevin Shine have all been very good about things and have handled the situation well."When he moves to the `White Horse’ county he will link up with Ben Trott, another Somerset old boy who made the trip to the south east to further his career.Pete Trego told me: "I have had phone calls from several of the Kent players, including Ben Trott, welcoming me to the club."Certainly Kent think very highly of their new signing. He continued: "They are pretty keen to have me which is nice to know, and after Christmas they are sending me out to Australia for six weeks where I will be working with Dennis Lillee."He concluded: "I would like to thank all of the Somerset fans for the support that they have given me over the years. I have got many happy memories of the times that I have spent here and will leave behind a lot of friends."The Somerset chief executive Peter Anderson told me: "We are sorry to see Pete Trego leave the club especially as he was a product of our Academy system. That said he has to take his opportunity and he feels that he has a better chance of first team cricket at Kent than here at Taunton."The Somerset boss concluded: "We wish him all the very best for the future and accept that he will probably score a century and take five wickets when he plays against us."

Celtic: Hoops set to miss out on Santos Borre

Celtic look set to miss out on signing striker Santos Borre, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Hoops’ interest

Football Insider shared a story last week claiming the Hoops had joined rivals Rangers in the race for the free agent.

Borre’s contract with River Plate expired on Wednesday evening and the Hoops registered their interest in the centre-forward ahead of a possible cut-price switch to Scotland.

The 25-year-old’s contract demands were thought to be crucial when it came to any potential deal for Borre, and it seemed as if that was the case after all.

The Latest: Source shares Frankfurt swoop

According to Football Insider, who were informed by a recruitment source, German side Eintracht Frankfurt are closing in on the Colombia international.

The report adds that personal terms have been agreed, with his salary demands an issue for both Celtic and Rangers.

A move to Frankfurt could now be finalised by the end of the week for the 5 foot 7 forward after he accepted terms with the Bundesliga side.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-7/” title=”Celtic updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Edouard situation crucial

Should Odsonne Edouard depart Parkhead despite his move to Leicester City falling through, the Hoops would be in desperate need of a new striker.

The Frenchman is still expected to leave, and if he does, the Hoops would need a marquee attacking addition, like Borre, to replace Edouard.

Borre has scored 74 goals in his career and has been capped at international level on four occasions, so the £15.3m-rated striker looked to be a suitable addition.

Who knows, Edouard may well remain in Glasgow, but time is ticking ahead of Celtic’s Champions League qualifier later this month, so transfer dealings need to be resolved as soon as possible, and it is certainly a blow to miss out on an experienced international with a proven track record of finding the back of the net.

Fury fall to Victorian Spirit

Superior bowling and solid batting by the Victorian Spirit overcame the Western Fury with victory by 8 wickets at Abbett Park in Perth today.

David Bebb24-Nov-2002Superior bowling and solid batting by the Victorian Spirit overcame the Western Fury with victory by 8 wickets at Abbett Park in Perth today. The Fury were bowled out for a score of 126 in the forty-third over of their innings. In reply the Spirit lost two wickets on their way to victory in the thirtieth over. The main difference between the teams today was in their bowling. The Spirit had the pace and penetration to regularly take the Fury wickets whilst their opponent relied on spin and medium pace.In contrast to yesterdays match – the Fury players were running well between the wickets. There was virtually no hesitation throughout their innings. The fielding of the Spirit side was marginally better than yesterday, it was the bowlers however who won the day for their team.Conditions were perfect – clear skies and a mere zephyr of wind at the start of play. Zoe Goss won the toss for the Fury and elected to bat first.Openers Elwyn Campbell and Angelle Gray had put 15 runs on the board when Gray was trapped in front – leg before wicket to Clea Smith after scoring 3 runs from 10 balls.Campbell and Fury captain Zoe Goss saw off the Victorian pace bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick adding 36 to the score when Goss 11 (from 23 balls) was bowled around her legs by Jodi Dean in the fifteenth over of the innings with the Fury score two wickets for 51.Campbell and Sarah Collyer added 21 more to the score when Campbell 34 (84)played inside the line of a delivery from Jane Franklin and had the off stump removed and was out bowled when the Fury score was 72 for the third wicket. The fourth wicket partnership of English pair Collyer and Dawn Holden cameundone when the score was 87. They were together only eight minutes addingfifteen from seventeen balls when Holden 5 (11) guided a Sarah Young delivery into the safe hands of Louise Broadfoot at second slip.Collyer and Avril Fahey added twelve runs for the fifth wicket, bringing the Fury score to 99 when Collyer 24 (44) bottom edged a ball from Franklin into the gloves of Spirit wicket keeper Amelie Hunter who was standing up at the stumps.Avril Fahey 3 (17) was trapped in front by Young out leg before wicket, before her sixth wicket partner Lauren Stammers could open her account and thus the sixth wicket went with 102 runs on the scoreboard in the thirty-third over.Breaking the seventh wicket partnership worth fourteen runs, Shannon Young had Lauren Stammers 10 (16) caught by Melanie Jones. The Fury fighting hard to stave off the attack with 116 runs.Kelly Tyrrell 2 (5) lofted into the outfield off an outside edge and was caught out there by Kelly Applebee off the bowling of Louise Broadfoot. The ninth wicket to fall was that of Renee Chappell 3 (16) who lofted a drive off Young and was at mid off caught by Belinda Clark. The Western Fury were had scored 121 in the thirty-ninth over.Zoe Kissane 4 (13) failed to dig out a full ball from the pace bowler Fitzpatrick, second ball of her new spell, bowled out and the last batsman out, leaving Connie Wong 2 (15) undefeated for the second time in two games. So the Western Fury were all out for 126 two balls into the forty-third over.At at asking rate of just 2.54 per over the Victorian Spirit were set for aquick victory. They were propelled to that position by their bowling. Each of the six bowlers used was rewarded with at least one scalp. The best figures were of Shannon Young who took four wickets conceding 23 runs from eight overs. Jane Franklin chipped in with two wickets for 14 from five overs and Louise Broadfoot one wicket for 9 from five overs was the most economical. The other bowlers used were Cathryn Fitzpatrick, Clea Smith and Jodi Dean with a wicket each. The first wicket partnership of Louise Broadfoot and Belinda Clark erased 78 runs from the target before their union in the middle was broken. Clark chased at a ball outside off from Kelly Tyrrell and gave a catch off the driven edge to Angelle Gray at a wide second slip position. An hour into the Victorian reply, a stiff westerly breeze arrived. This greatly assisted the slower bowlers from the Fury, adding drift to the spin they were exerting off the pitch. The bowling in general lacked the penetration of the Victorian Spirit. The wicket of Louise Broadfoot fell when she was caught at first slip by Zoe Goss off the bowling of Dawn Holden for 23 (61). Twelve runs was the value of the second wicket partnership with Kelly Applebee. Their partnership was broken with the score of 90 in the twenty-first over.Kelly Applebee 29 (42) and Melanie Jones 10 (25) brought the Spirit ship home in the thirtieth over. The Fury used six bowlers in the defense of their total. Only Kelly Tyrrell (1-8) and Dawn Holden (1-17) were successful. The other bowlers used were Zoe Goss, Sarah Collyer, Patrice Berthold and Avril Fahey.Shannon Young was awarded the man of the match award for her four wicket haul in the Fury innings. The next matches for Victoria Spirit is away to the New South Wales Institute of Sport in Sydney, 7 and 8 December 2002. At the same time the Western Fury will be playing their next matches away to the Southern Scorpions at Adelaide.

Wolves urged to sign Lewis Dunk

Bruno Lage wrapped up the transfer of Trincao on Sunday morning in what was a huge boost to Wolves’ chances next season.

That being said, bad news could be on the way with Conor Coady, Ruben Neves and Adama Traore all linked with the exit door.

What’s the word?

If Coady does leave, Wolves will have a challenge on their hands to replace him.

They’ve already been touted with Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski but Old Gold legend Steve Bull is entertaining the idea of another English defender heading to Molineux.

Speaking to This is Futbol over the weekend, the club’s all-time record scorer commented: “I want to see experience come into Wolves and someone like Tarkowski from Burnley or Lewis Dunk at Brighton, just somebody who has been there and done it in the Premier League.”

The Brighton defender was the subject of interest from Leicester a few years ago as they weighed up a whopping £40m offer.

Dunk is now valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt.

Bye-bye Coady

Should the Wolves skipper depart this summer they’d be foolish to ignore Dunk.

After all, the central defender bullied Nuno Santo’s men on two occasions last term, as he scored in back to back games against the Midlands side.

He was a menace from set-piece scenarios when the two clubs drew 3-3 with each other back in January.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-news-ceballos-zinchenko-euros-felix-lage” title=”Read the latest Wolves transfer news!”]

Bizarrely, it was diminutive midfielder Ruben Neves who was marking the 6 foot 4 frame of Dunk during that encounter, as the Englishman got the better of him to find the back of the net.

Dunk was a huge threat when the two teams played each other in May as well. Wolves came from behind to win following a red card to the 29-year-old but before then, he caused chaos from corners.

Neves was charged with marking him again in a rather naive move from the manager as he was beaten in the air to score in successive games versus the Old Gold.

The Brighton star was described as “outstanding” last season and it’s clear to see why. Dunk scored five goals on his way to winning 2.4 aerial duels per match.

That not only equals Wolves’ top scorer last season in Pedro Neto, but in terms of aerial battles, only Willy Boly, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker won more.

After Wolves shipped 52 league goals last term, they will desperately need defensive recruits. Dunk can be erratic at times but would undoubtedly add more physicality to their backline.

AND in other news, Imagine him & Trincao: Wolves must sign “remarkable” 22-goal beast with “magic” feet…
