Wolves fans amazed by Neves masterclass

Loads of Wolves fans have been giving their verdict on the draw against Everton, and once again they’re in awe of the performance of Ruben Neves. It takes a special player to captain a Champions League club aged just 18, and Neves is fulfilling every ounce of the potential he showed at Porto. The 21 year-old was simply sensational in the league-winning campaign last season, and if there were any concerns that he may not have the same effect in the Premier League then there definitely isn’t now.[brid autoplay=”true” video=”278155″ player=”12034″ title=”Every Transfer Window EVER”]Nuno’s side had to come from behind twice in the opening clash against Everton, and they managed to do just that thanks in no small part to Neves. The Portuguese youngster curled an absolutely delightful free kick into Jordan Pickford’s net shortly before half time, and his inch-perfect cross set up the second equaliser as well.//fixtureinfocus.podiant.co/latest/embed/Fans may have to come to terms with the fact that this will be a much, much tougher season than last year, but Neves clearly doesn’t think so, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Everton fans debate whether sending Vlasic to CSKA was the right call

Nikola Vlasic has quite the following in the Everton fanbase despite the fact that he has had very little game time.

In fact, the midfielder has made just 12 Premier League appearances since moving to Goodison Park from Hajduk Split last year.

Vlasic was never going to jump straight into the first team considering his age, but under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, he failed to make a breakthrough.

The 20-year-old would have hoped to impress new manager Marco Silva in pre-season, but the Portuguese coach has opted to send the midfielder away on loan.

On Wednesday, the club announced via their official website that Vlasic had joined Russian outfit CSKA Moscow for the season on a loan deal.

There, the youngster will gain more first-team experience before returning to Everton and fighting for a starting spot.

On Reddit, some supporters have been left disappointed by the news that Vlasic will not be at the club this season, while others think that it is a positive step.

Aston Villa must do all they can to lure Yannick Bolasie to Villa Park

According to a recent report from The Daily Star, Aston Villa are interested in a move for winger Yannick Bolasie. The 29-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League outfit Everton and has done so since the summer of 2016, although the arrival of Richarlison looks set to push the winger down the pecking order at Goodison Park, and potentially out of the club altogether.

And Steve Bruce’s Villa are one side reportedly keen on the £16.2 million-rated wing wizard (as per Transfermarkt), a deal which, if they can get done before the August 31 deadline, could prove to be something of a transfer masterstroke.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, things haven’t quite worked out for the DR Congo international since his move to Goodison Park from Crystal Palace two years ago, as although he started well in the first few months, he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in the December, which kept him out for a year.

And while he returned to first team action in December last year, he wasn’t then able to produce his best form, netting just once in 16 Premier League appearances for the Toffees, seemingly prompting new manager Marco Silva to spend £50 million on Richarlison.

And his exclusion from the matchday squad on Saturday in their 2-2 draw at Wolves has stimulated further speculation about his future – speculation Bruce is seeking to exploit.

And that’s because the 29-year-old would without doubt be a huge asset to any side in the Championship, as one mustn’t forget that he earned a move to Everton just two years ago after producing the goods at Palace.

In his four years at Selhurst Park, the winger scored 13 goals and laid on 30 assists for the Eagles to underline his quality in the final third of the pitch – if he is able to do that in the Premier League, it’s frightening to think what he could do in the Championship.

Yes, last season was something of a disappointment and perhaps suggests that he’s not quite at his best level, but with pace to burn and the desire to run at and take on defenders, Bolasie could wreak havoc in the second tier – he is that good when he’s on-song. And playing regularly could be what’s needed for him to get back to his best, which doesn’t look like happening at Everton.

Thus, the potential goals and assists, and indeed the excitement, he could bring Villa and their supporters were he to move to Villa Park is exactly why luring him to the Midlands could turn out to be a transfer masterstroke by Bruce and the club’s hierarchy.

Middlesbrough simply must beat Aston Villa to the signature of Matt Targett

According to a recent report from The Daily Star, Middlesbrough are interested in a move for defender Matt Targett. The 22-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League side Southampton and has done so since the early 2000s, having come up through the ranks at St Mary’s to go on and earn 42 appearances for the South Coast outfit.

Yet his seemingly lowly position in the pecking order at the top-flight outfit has reportedly attracted the interest of both Boro and indeed Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa, but it is imperative that Tony Pulis’ men get the better of the Midlands giants by winning the race for the £6.3 million-rated Premier League outcast (as per Transfermarkt).

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Teessiders let left back Fabio leave the club during the summer window to leave George Friend as the only recognised player in that position, which heading into the long, hard slog that is the Championship season is quite a risk to take.

Like Boro, Villa are also somewhat short in that department given they have just former Swansea City man Neil Taylor as their only recognised left back, and having sought to land Bristol City’s Joe Bryan earlier in the summer, who Bruce admitted was just ’15 minutes’ away from signing for the Midlands giants, it’s clear that the Villans chief is looking to improve that area of the field.

As such, there is no doubting that both sides would benefit greatly from luring Targett away from Southampton, not least because the left back enjoyed a fine stint on loan at Fulham last term to help them return to the Premier League.

The former England Under-21 international joined the Cottagers on loan back in January of this year after making just two Premier League appearances for Southampton in the first half of the campaign, and he went on to shine for Slavisa Jokanovic’s men in appearing in all 21 of their Championship matches following his arrival, netting once and laying on two assists.

Thus, it’s clear that Targett was doing something right to earn regular football at the high end of the second tier last season, hence Fulham were reportedly keen on luring him back to the club this summer, so there is no reason why he couldn’t do a job for Pulis’ Boro.

Add in his experiences of helping a side win promotion, having lost just twice in his 21 appearances for Fulham last term, and his arrival would not only bolster the flagging left back department, but it’d also add a greater amount of know-how to a Middlesbrough squad seeking to return to the top-flight this term.

And the fact that Villa are also in the running for the Saints ace simply must prompt Boro to act fast and beat the Midlands giants to Targett’s signature in the final few weeks of the loan window.

HYS: Should Lacazette start over Aubameyang?

Club record signing and current first-choice Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made an inauspicious start to the new Premier League campaign.

Despite having been named in Unai Emery’s starting XI for all of the Gunners’ games so far – against Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham United – the Gabon international is yet to find the back of the net. At Stamford Bridge, the 29-year-old missed two glaring opportunities to put the game beyond the Blues, and twice failed to even hit the target.

In the end, Arsenal returned to the Emirates Stadium with nothing to show for their trip.

Emery has already admitted that Aubameyang, who earns £180,000-a-week according to The Mirror, is short of confidence, as reported by The Independent. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette is waiting in the wings.

The Frenchman was usurped as the first choice to lead the line when Aubameyang arrived in January. The 27-year-old is a player of real quality though and is more than capable of competing with the ex-Borussia Dortmund man.

Whilst many would like to see the pair line up together as a strike partnership, it seems unlikely at this stage of Emery’s tenure. In each of the Gunners’ game so far Lacazette has had to make do with being introduced from the bench, yet every time Arsenal have immediately looked more dangerous following his entry into proceedings.

The time has now come for Lacazette to reclaim his starting berth.

What do you think Arsenal fans? Should it be Lacazette or Aubameyang leading the line against Cardiff City on Sunday?

West Ham fans react to update on James Collins future

According to West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee, James Collins is nearing a move to the Championship, with Ipswich Town and Aston Villa both in the hunt.Collins left West Ham on a free transfer at the end of last season, but the 35-year-old never had any plans to hang up his boots. He was actually linked with a return to the Hammers last month, but the move did not occur, and Collins is now seemingly on the verge of dropping down to the second tier.It would be fair to say that the 6ft 2in Welshman is still a popular figure with the West Ham fans, having made over 200 appearances during his two separate spells at the London club.[brid autoplay=”true” video=”289180″ player=”12034″ title=”A Futsal Player Walks Into A Denmark Squad…”]The West Ham supporters have been discussing his next move on social media, and a number have wished him well ahead of a switch to either Ipswich or Villa. There are also some fans who feel that their club should have offered Collins a contract due to his experience and knowledge of top-flight football.A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Leeds fans heap praise on Peacock-Farrell after international debut

Leeds fans are absolutely delighted for Bailey Peacock-Farrell, after the young goalkeeper made his full debut for Northern Ireland on Saturday.

[ad_pod ]

Leeds were in a goalkeeper crisis when Peacock-Farrell emerged last season. Veteran Andy Lonergan was injured, and Felix Wiedwald was past the point of no return.

Peacock-Farrell has made a few mistakes since breaking into the team, but for a 21 year-old with almost no first team experience he has been fantastic between the sticks.

Northern Ireland rewarded his impressive rise with by giving him the nod in their UEFA Nations League opener on Saturday, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Leeds ace will be disappointed with the second Bosnian goal, as a poor header from Watford’s Craig Cathcart left him in no man’s land.

Despite the defeat, fans are heaping praise on their young stopper, who will have to keep up form to stave off pressure from Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

A slice of Premier League genius: Nwankwo Kanu

Each week on Football FanCast we will be celebrating those special breed who lit up the Premier League with their unique brand of utter genius. This time out we pay homage to an occasional magnificence.

When the firmament of Premier League greats is discussed Nwankwo Kanu is too often overlooked. This is fine and understandable should the celebratory chat concentrate only on the top tier – yer Shearers and Henrys and Cantonas. Beneath them though, a full fathom five below Scholes and Bergkamp but a whole other plateau higher than some seriously over-lauded household names, stands the 6ft 5 Nigerian.

Perhaps his under-estimation derives from his perfectly ordinary spells at Portsmouth and West Brom, a prolonged decline of reputation that lasted eight years all told. Or maybe it was the startling 118 occasions he began top flight games on the bench, a figure only topped by two others.

Whatever the reason, when the best of the rest are recalled, Kanu is rarely a name that springs readily to mind.

Yet he should, he really should. Here after all is a player who has won a Champions League, two Premier Leagues and two FA Cups, not to mention a UEFA Cup and an Olympic gold medal. He was twice voted the African Player of the Year and, though it reflects more on his character than anything achieved on the pitch, he also set up the Kanu Heart Foundation that has aided an incalculable number of children born with defects. When he took his international bow in 2011 no other player had been furnished with more caps for Nigeria.

The striker from Owerri, Imo could exasperate, no question about that and additionally too he had a propensity to go AWOL for 90 minutes at a time. But on his day – and there were plenty of them – this altogether alien type of frontman to our shores lit up the top flight and showed us glimpses of the future. Here was a targetman as unlike a typical number nine as we’d ever seen. Here was a targetman blessed with the touch and skills of an elegant baller.

Too rarely perhaps did the stars align and that became truer still when Henry began to emerge, taking the acclaim that Kanu craved but could never quite string enough games together to secure. This series though is called ‘A Slice Of Genius’. It is not called ‘A Genius Every Week’.

And on October 23rd 1999 that genius duly came to the fore.

The opponents were Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, title challengers no less. In the first half Tore Andre Flo had put the home side ahead and seven minutes after the break Dan Petrescu had seemingly put the contest to bed. With 15 minutes left on the clock the Gunners were staring at their second defeat in three games.

Enter the big man. The occasional genius. A stymied attack bounced around the area and fell to his size 13 boots and he prodded home. A consolation? No, it was too early to call it that. A chance to gain a valuable point.

In the 83rd minute another stymied attack, this time down the right, as Chelsea held firm. First Lee Dixon and then Marc Overmars looked for openings until the latter cleverly pinged across a low ball, confounding all but the striker. Kanu took a velvet touch into a body of space and blasted home the equaliser.

In the game’s last knocking Chelsea right-back Albert Ferrer attempted a clearance that hit the forward’s tall frame and ricocheted into the corner. Kanu gave chase and with the ball now at his feet he must have been flabbergasted to feel the panicked breath of keeper Ed de Goey upon him. Quite what he was doing there, stranded so far from goal remains a mystery to this very day.

But there he was and other forwards would rush their thought process at this juncture. Fight or flight would kick in. Not so Kanu.

With coolness personified the keeper was turned – de Goey fell flat on his backside – and the narrow gap to goal was navigated with a curling beauty.

Three exquisite goals in 15 minutes, to over-turn a two-goal deficit in a top four battle, away from home. Never let it be said that Nwankwo Kanu – soon after voted the thirteenth greatest player in Arsenal’s history – wasn’t capable when the mood struck, of the utterly magnificent.

When the firmament of Premier League greats is discussed his inclusion is never failingly a must.

Manchester United should move for this impressive Italian defender come January

Manchester United’s good recent form continued this weekend with an excellent away win at an in-form Watford.

The Red Devils look to have put some of their early season form and problems behind them, and two consecutive wins will have done the players and Mourinho, the world of good.

Even though the window has only just closed in England, eyes from some United fans will already be on the January market, and here at the Transfer Tavern, we think that a defender has to be on the agenda for the Old Trafford club.

One man we think they should be looking to sign is AC Milan ace Alessio Romagnoli, who is already showing signs of developing into one of the next great Italian defenders.

Italy are famed for their defenders, with the likes of Baresi, Maldini, and Nesta all donning the AC Milan jersey, and Romagnoli would appear to be on his way to fitting right in with this elite group.

United are going to need ready made quality in order to keep the pressure on rivals City and Liverpool, and signing someone like Romagnoli would go a long way to plugging that leak at the back.

The Italian is a quality defensive player, and would be exactly the sort of signing who Mourinho would love to welcome to his squad during the tricky winter window.

United fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!

Nakhi Wells gives promising news to QPR

When Burnley striker Nakhi Wells joined QPR on loan towards the end of August, he was joining a club in turmoil.

Almost one month to the day after he joined, and the club are on a five match unbeaten streak and climbing up the Championship table. They were rooted firmly at the bottom when he joined, without a single point, now they are 16th.

Alongside Brighton loan Tomer Hemed, the two strikers have turned QPR’s season around and manager Steve McClaren must be very happy. To be given the news today that Wells in considering making his move permanent must have made him over the moon.

But with this news, the club should not hesitate in securing this deal. As soon as January comes, this should be one of the club’s main priorities. If they can secure his signature, and possibly Hemed’s, the team are shaping up to be quite threatening. Alongside hot prospect Eberechi Eze, the possibilities are endless for QPR’s attack.

Despite the dire start by The Hoops, their turnaround means that fans can expect big things from their club this season, and more to come if they are able to get Wells (valued at £4.05m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) to stay at Loftus Road.

Bermuda international Wells struggled for game time in his first season with Premier League outfit Burnley, and wisely fashioned a move to the London club.

QPR host Norwich on Saturday, hoping to extend their unbeaten run and improve their position in the table. The Canaries are one point ahead of them going into Saturday’s clash, meaning a victory to The Rs would see them leapfrog their opponents.
