Arsenal fans far from pleased with Elneny’s display v Brentford

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal made it six wins in a row across all competitions by defeating Brentford on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup but the Gunners still managed to make a meal of things.

Cruising into a two-goal lead in the first half, Arsenal opened the door for their Championship opponents after taking their foot off the gas and seeing Alan Judge beat Bernd Leno with a stunning free-kick and that led to a nervy finale.

Alexandre Lacazette eventually eased the tension in the dying moments by getting his name on the scoresheet but the overall performance left a lot to be desired and fans made it clear they were not happy with the performance of Mohamed Elneny.

The Egypt international has seen his first-team opportunities decrease significantly since the arrivals of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira in the summer, so his struggling performance will be a blow to his hopes of landing more starts.

We have gathered some of the best reactions to Elneny’s display below.

Revealed: 73% of Tottenham fans want Herrera to replace Dembele

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham fans have been discussing their interest in Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera, and a whopping 73 per cent of fans want the midfielder to replace Mousa Dembele.

According to A Bola (via Sport Witness), Tottenham sent scouts to watch Porto’s 1-0 win over Tondela last week.

CM Jornal claimed recently that Herrera has rejected three separate contract offers from the Portuguese giants, and Tottenham were repeatedly linked with Herrera this summer.

The Mexican international has been fabulous during his five years with Porto, but he will be out of contract next summer.

This means Tottenham could get him for dirt cheap in January, or negotiate a pre-contract agreement to sign him for free next summer.

Mousa Dembele is of course expected to leave North London when his deal expires next summer, so a direct swap for Herrera without spending a penny makes perfect sense

You can find the poll results down below, where 73 per cent of Spurs fans want to sign the 28 year-old…

Manchester United make Spurs boss Pochettino their priority

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United are eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as a replacement for Jose Mourinho, according to The Independent.

What’s the word?

Mauricio Pochettino’s stock has risen significantly after an impressive few years at Tottenham and the Lilywhites now look set for a major challenge if they are to retain the services of their Argentine boss.

The Independent states that the Spurs boss is Manchester United’s ideal target to replace Jose Mourinho, should they axe the Portuguese boss in the coming weeks, which could lead to a nervy couple of weeks in North London.

Mourinho’s position is under threat following a woeful run of form that includes last weekend’s defeat at West Ham and the EFL Cup clash with Derby, where the Red Devils were knocked out on penalties. Hovering 10th in the table, the calls for Mourinho to go have become increasingly louder.

Spurs biggest asset?

Tottenham have done well to keep their prized assets out of the clutches of Europe’s top sides in recent seasons, retaining the services of key players like Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli, Hugo Lloris and Danny Rose.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”304096″ player=”12034″ title=”McGregor vs Khabib”]

It is fair to say that if Pochettino were to go, then top players may also seek an exit and Tottenham now face a crucial test in ensuring that the Argentine boss is not lured away to join a Premier League rival – as he would be impossible to replace.

Thankfully, Daniel Levy is extremely unlikely to sanction an exit midway through the season but the reports still fire a warning to Spurs ahead of next summer, when the club will have to balance the financial implications of their stadium move.

Arsenal should be keeping tabs on Nabil Bentaleb amid Ramsey’s inevitable departure

Arsenal have enjoyed a thoroughly promising opening to the season under Unai Emery, but there has been one notable dark spot to note: the breakdown in negotiations with Aaron Ramsey over a new contract.

After almost eight years with the club it seems inevitable that Ramsey will depart Arsenal next summer. Following a summer of speculation regarding his future, the BBC confirmed last month that Arsenal had withdrawn the offer of a new deal.

Although Arsenal refused to state the reason for their decision, it would be fair to assume that Ramsey has either indicated his desire to leave or that the club are unwilling to meet his wage demands.

Either way it seems that another era is coming to an end in north London, and Sven Mislintat will now need to work in conjunction with Unai Emery to identify a worthy replacement.

Mislintat has proven during his relatively short stint with the club that his strong Bundesliga connections make the elite tier of German football an attractive place to consider for potential new signings, and with that thinking in mind he should return to Germany for a player who came through Tottenham’s academy, namely Nabil Bentaleb.

The Algeria international was regarded as one of the brightest players to emerge from Tottenham’s academy just a few seasons ago, but he struggled to make an impression under Mauricio Pochettino.

Bentaleb is now plying his trade for Schalke in the Bundesliga after he completed a £17.1 million switch in July 2017, and his eye-catching performances have suggested that Spurs were foolish to let him go.

A technical playmaker by nature, Bentaleb has showcased his complete midfield qualities since leaving north London, with controlled aggression and a natural ability to influence the game in the final-third making him one to watch in Germany’s top-flight.

A record of 13 goals and 8 assists from 73 appearances suggests that he possesses the ability to slot into Ramsey’s shoes and provide goals from midfield, despite his failure to make it with Arsenal’s bitter London rival.

There was a suggestion that Bentaleb was too lightweight when he first broke through the ranks at Tottenham, but he has since bulked up and become a better all-round talent rather than just a tidy-looking ball-player.

The 23-year-old midfielder still has plenty of improving to do this season to merit a switch to Arsenal and there are question marks surrounding his record with injuries, but he is certainly a player who Mislintat should be keeping a close eye on this season and recommending to Emery as the senior pair plan for a future without the Welsh wizard.

Rangers fans split on Rossiter’s return to action

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been giving their verdict on their first away win of the season, and they’ve got plenty to say about Jordan Rossiter.

Steven Gerrard and the Gers finally got an away win on Sunday, firing in three goals in the final ten minutes to put some gloss on the scoreline at Hamilton.

Ryan Kent’s sensational finish had given the visitors a first half lead, but an 80th minute equaliser from Steven Boyd looked to have inflicted more heartbreak away from home for the Gers.

Two James Tavernier penalties completely flipped the script though, before Alfredo Morelos added a fourth in added time.

Rossiter was handed his first start of the season after a spree of injuries, and fans are split on the performance.

The 21-year-old signed for the club back in 2016, but has made just 13 first team appearances.

He had some really good moments during the win at Hamilton, but also picked up a yellow card and probably should have done better for the equalising goal.

As a tough-tackling Scouse midfielder he’ll certainly be in Gerrard’s good books, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Between The Lines: Tottenham’s off-field issues may force sulking Pochettino to Madrid

According to BBC Sport, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said that this was the worst he had felt during his time at Spurs, despite guiding the club to their best ever Premier League start.

What did he say?

“The season so far, it’s strange because my feeling is the worst I’ve had in the five years that I’ve been here, but it’s the best start ever for the club in the Premier League. It’s strange, no?

“It’s so difficult to explain because many things happen, I am disappointed we are still waiting for the new stadium when the expectation was to be there at the beginning of the season.”

What did he really mean?

Spurs have picked up 21 points from their opening nine games in the league this season and sit in fifth place in the table, but there have been a number of off-field issues that are starting to affect the Argentine boss.

The proposed new stadium was supposed to be open already, but instead the club are now having to play the day after an NFL game at Wembley. With no new signings in the summer and some important players on the injury list, things could also start to get difficult on the pitch for Spurs, especially with a loss to Manchester City.

Madrid calling?

After their 5-1 loss to Barcelona in El Clasico on Sunday, it would be no surprise to see Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui sacked by the end of the week.

It would also be no surprise if Los Blancos were to then target Pochettino. Whilst the Tottenham boss may have turned them down before, with the current problems off the pitch at Spurs he may now be more inclined to jump ship for what is surely one of the most sought-after jobs in world football.

Liverpool fans bash Lallana after Cardiff display

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been giving their verdict on Saturday’s big win, and they’re really not happy with the performance of Adam Lallana.

Liverpool romped past Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, and the 4-1 win has put the Reds on top of the Premier League.

Fabinho put another 90 minutes under his belt, Mohamed Salah looks well and truly back to his best, and Sadio Mane grabbed himself another two goals.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”310054″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Fake Madrid & Ross Barkley Emulates… David Ngog”]

Fans aren’t happy with Lallana though who is perhaps the on Liverpool player who didn’t play well in the win.

The experienced playmaker was tasked with being the creative link between midfield and attack, but took too many touches on the ball and slowed all the attacks down.

The side looked infinitely better when Xherdan Shaqiri replaced the English international in the second half, and Shaqiri even got himself on the scoresheet.

Lallana is known to be one of Klopp’s favourites, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below. Look away now Adam…

Leeds fans react to O’Connor’s all-action display

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting to Paudie O’Connor’s all-action display on Wednesday, as he scored and got sent off for Blackpool in a Carabao Cup clash at Arsenal.

Leeds fans were slightly bemused when O’Connor was sent out on loan, as the Whites are a little short of options at the back.

The young centre-back looked solid in his few first team appearances at Elland Road, but there are certainly still some creases that need to be ironed out.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”310054″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Fake Madrid & Ross Barkley Emulates… David Ngog”]

He showed both sides of his game on Wednesday, as his loan team were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

The 21-year-old got his side back in the game with a nicely taken header after the Gunners had gone 2-0 up, but he was sent off just moments later.

A simply ridiculous scissor challenge on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earned the Leeds ace a straight red card, a dismissal that some fans seem pretty proud of.

Everton fans furious after Jorginho avoids red card for reckless tackle on Sigurdsson

[ad_pod ]

Everton upset the odds by restricting Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Merseyside outfit put a slight dent in the Blues’ Premier League title hopes, but one of the major talking points related to a moment involving Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Everton’s number 10 was on the receiving end of a two-footed tackle from Jorginho just before the half-hour mark.

The midfielder continued to play on before eventually being substituted 30 minutes into the second half.

After the match, The Sun published a photograph of Sigurdsson leaving Stamford Bridge wearing a protective boot on his right foot.

The extent of the damage is unknown, but plenty of Everton fans were left reeling by the referee’s decision not to send off Jorginho, who was issued with a booking instead.

Everton sit ninth in the Premier League table, eight points adrift of the top four and have won three of their last four top-flight matches.

Virgil van Dijk and co warm up for the Netherlands’ clash vs France with a bike ride

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk joined his Netherlands teammates on a bike ride through a park in Rotterdam ahead of their training session on Thursday, before preparations for the UEFA Nations League clash with France were to step up a gear.

Former Everton and Southampton boss Ronald Koeman led his Dutch side, which includes Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake and former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay, on the cycle.

Thogden witnessed Wayne Rooney’s final England cap. Check out his vlog here…

The Netherlands are currently second in their group with three points after two matches, four points behind Friday’s opponents France. 27-year-old Van Dijk, who recently took over the captaincy after his hugely impressive start to life at Liverpool, and his teammates will then travel to Gelsenkirchen to face Germany on Monday.

Joachim Low’s side are bottom of Group A1 though with just one point, meaning if the Netherlands beat France then the Germans will be relegated before even getting to play their old rivals for the second time.
