If it is not Barcelona sniffing around Liverpool’s players, then it is their rivals Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane, of course, was named as the La Liga giants’ new coach after initially leaving the club last summer, and that could be bad news for a certain Merseyside club as the Frenchman eyes a Bernabeu overhaul.

The Breakdown

According to the Daily Mail, Zidane, who is said to be an admirer of Sadio Mane, could now move for the Liverpool winger when the transfer window opens in what would be a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp.

All things considered, though, it is way too early for Liverpool supporters to be panicking — if they even are.

The English outlet also reports that Chelsea’s star man Eden Hazard is, unsurprisingly, Real Madrid’s No.1 target, news which should ease any fears the Anfield faithful currently have.

Hazard’s contract is up next summer and the 28-year-old has made it clear on numerous occasions that playing for the European champions is a dream of his (via Goal).

Meanwhile, Liverpool remain in a much stronger bargaining position than Chelsea when it comes to one of their prized assets with Mane only recently putting pen to paper on a new contract.

Based on that, if there is any Premier League player heading to Real Madrid in the next transfer window, then it is Hazard, not Mane.

Southgate has dug himself a hole

The England boss has repeatedly stated his preference to pick players based on form rather than reputation but his latest selection is a huge contradiction to that. Ward-Prowse is the epitome of ‘form’ at the moment having scored six goals in his last nine games, including free-kicks against Manchester United and Spurs.

Meanwhile, Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek – two of the midfielders who have have kept the 24-year-old out of the Three Lions setup this time around – have accumulated just 1,155 minutes of Premier League football between them this term at Manchester City and Chelsea respectively, with Delph featuring for just 10 minutes in the top flight in 2019.

Previous managers have shown loyalties to the top six clubs but, considering Southgate’s promise not to do so, fans of both England and Southampton were surely expecting the Saints number 16 to be a shoe-in for the squad, particularly with the likes of Harry Winks and Jesse Lingard out.

Southgate has dug himself a sizeable hole with his comments and should Ward-Prowse keep up this form for the remainder of the season and then not be included in the next squad, the England boss will have confirmed he is no less biased towards the big clubs than his predecessors.

Alex Rae has picked two positions that Rangers must strengthen in order to challenge for the title next season.

Steven Gerrard has come under loads of fire recently, as the Gers are yet to win a game in the month of March.

Back to back 1-1 draws with Aberdeen and Hibernian were followed by the shocking cup defeat against the Dons, before a home draw against Kilmarnock handed the title to Celtic on a silver platter.

The boss deserves some flak for his tactics when struggling to break down deep defences. However, it is clear that the quality in the squad is not good enough, and Rae, who made 34 appearances for the Gers between 2004 and 2006, has had his say on the summer transfer plans.

What has he said?

“I’m certain he is the right person to lead the challenge next season. He will be more prepared and will know what he wants to try to do. Steven will know now the players he wants to take Rangers forward,” Rae said, as reported by The Daily Record.

“Having listened to him in recent weeks, he’s talking about marquee players – players who are going to make a difference.

“Rangers need another quality centre-half. If you look at the last three games the goals they have lost have been extremely poor.

“And they need more quality in the offensive area because when they come up against teams who defend deep they find it very hard to break them down.”

Great news for Goldson

The latter part of Rae’s recommendation is clear for all to see – the Gers are simply incapable of breaking teams down when they sit deep.

A proper number ten, who can operate between the lines and support Alfredo Morelos, is an absolute necessity in the summer window.

While it may have flown slightly under the radar, the centre back issue might be even more important though.

With Joe Worrall expected to return to Nottingham Forest and Nikola Katic clearly not earning Gerrard’s trust, the boss needs a long-term partner for Connor Goldson.

This will be a huge relief to Goldson, who has gotten progressively worse throughout the season as he spends his time mopping up after whoever he is paired up with.

Goldson has all the technical, physical and leadership qualities needed to become a club legend if the right moves are made this summer. Gerrard must heed Rae’s calls and find an adequate partner for the ex-Brighton ace has he enters his prime.

Crystal Palace have two of the Premier League’s best non-top-six stars in Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Roy Hodgson surely understands how important it is to retain the duo’s services this summer if possible.

The former England boss made a big admission ahead of the trip to Tottenham on Wednesday night though.

With a number of top clubs circling both the electric winger and the battling right-back, the Eagles will have some job on their hands come the end of the season to try and keep the duo for the 2019/20 campaign – the lure of big money and, in some cases, Champions League football has proved irresistible to many in a similar position before.

Hodgson appreciates how important keeping his star players is but, no matter how crucial they are, he admits that every player has a price. The Premier League’s oldest manager had this to say about the sought-after pair:

“The club is certainly in no way advertising [Zaha and Wan-Bissaka] and or promoting them as saleable objects. We would be more than happy to keep them.

“But we just have to remain realistic and see what happens. If offers come in they will obviously be assessed, like everything else.

“As I heard Manuel Pellegrini quite rightly say the other day [when discussing Declan Rice’s future]: every football player does have a price.”

Palace will surely accept nothing less than £40m for Wan-Bissaka while £50m plus seems more realistic for Zaha – sums which would go a long way to developing the club as a whole if they were accepted.

However, the problem with selling star players is that no matter how much you spend to replace them, there is no guarantee those replacements will be up to scratch, so Eagles fans should be very worried about the gaffer’s admission.

رونالدو أصيب بفيروس كورونا، وسبادفورا صرّح بأن البرتغالي اخترق البروتوكول الصحي، لكن كريستيانو تحدث في بث مباشر عبر “إنستجرام”، قائلاً أن ما تردد عن اختراقه للبروتوكول “كذبة” (طالع رد رونالدو كاملاً).

وانتقد سبادافورا، رونالدو، وقال إن مزاياه كلاعب كرة قدم لا تمنحه الحق في أن يكون متعجرفًا وغير محترم للمؤسسات.
