Rangers fans aren’t keen on reports that the club are exploring the option of signing Northern Ireland striker Josh Magennis this summer.

The Belfast Telegraph reported on Tuesday that the Gers were in discussions with the player’s representatives about a potential budget move from Bolton Wanderers this summer, as the English club continue to suffer financial problems.

With 41 caps for his country and spells at Aberdeen, St Mirren and Kilmarnock, Magennis does have good experience but is not known as a prolific goalscorer.

Steven Gerrard already has Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe to call upon, but any third striker in support will also have to be able to find his way to goal when called upon or he won’t be very popular at Ibrox.

It’s fair to say the reaction to his potential signing is already negative, with many fans feeling he simply doesn’t have the quality to fit in at the club if they are hoping to be winning trophies next term.

واصل مانشستر يونايتد الضغط، خاصة بعد دخول كافاني مكان مارسيال بعد ربع ساعة من بداية الشوط الثاني، ليصبح هناك عمق هجومي للشياطين الحمر.

أحمر مانشستر كاد أن يقتل المباراة بهدف في الدقيقة 83 ولكن أليسون تعملق مجددًا وتصدى بطريقة رائعة لتسديدة بول بوجبا من داخل منطقة الجزاء، قبل أن يكرر تعملقه أمام راشفورد بعد تنفيذ الركنية.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison this summer, per Football.London.

What’s the word?

Spurs are attempting to sign their first player since January 2018 this summer.

They have been linked with a number of midfield players and the aforementioned report claims that both Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, of Real Betis and Lyon respectively, are targets.

However, they also state that Spurs hold a “big interest” in Maddison, who enjoyed an exceptional season at the Foxes in 2018/19.

He scored seven goals and registered seven assists in the Premier League but the report claims Spurs do not believe that he would be affordable in this transfer window.

A major mistake

Spurs were linked with a swoop for Maddison last summer, when a number of clubs circled the Norwich City star.

A Daily Mirror report claimed at the time that the Canaries had slapped a £25m asking price on their prized asset.

He ultimately moved to Leicester for a fee of around £20m, as Spurs kept their powder dry.

Now, he may well be worth treble that after a season in which he took to the Premier League like a duck to water, with the report from Football.London claiming his displays may have put him out of range for the Lilywhites.

He has been called up to the England squad, though he is yet to play, and has dazzled those at the King Power Stadium with his dribbling and his eye for goal.

Indeed, Maddison’s WhoScored stats show that he averages 2.8 key passes per game along with 1.4 dribbles and 2.3 shots.

Christian Eriksen, by comparison, averages 2.1 key passes, 0.5 dribbles and 2.4 shots.

He may have been regarded as something of a punt last summer but Leicester are now reaping the rewards; Spurs, meanwhile, are being punished for their inactivity.

With a new manager finally appointed West Brom can at last begin to make plans for next season.

Slaven Bilic was given the reins after three arduous months of searching came to an end and two of his former players have been linked with a switch to the Hawthorns.

Reece Oxford was touted with a potential move by The Telegraph, but now Football.London suggests that Sam Byram could also make the same journey – describing him as a ‘prime candidate’ to work under Bilic again.

The full-back was an efficient defender when at Leeds, where he won the Yorkshire Evening Post Player of the Year award, but after making a transfer to West Ham he’s had a torrid time with injuries.

Since signing for the Irons back in 2016 he’s not been afforded too much game time – making just 36 appearances for them since – and a chance of reviving his career on loan at Nottingham Forest last term didn’t go according to plan as he missed a considerable period out after undergoing knee surgery.

Given West Brom are lacking options at right-back Byram would clearly address a need, but should the Baggies be spending money on a player that’s as injury prone as the 25-year-old?

If he can put his injury history behind him then there’s plenty of reasons to suggest he’d be a brilliant capture for Albion. On the rare occasions he did play for Forest he looked decent enough whilst those who watched the Championship when he was with the Whites will be all too aware of his qualities.

“With Mason Holgate returning to Everton after his loan spell, I think this would be a shrewd signing by Bilic and one that would reunite him with a player he knows well having worked with Byram at West Ham. The former Leeds right-back has shone in England’s second tier before, doing enough to catch the attention of Premier League clubs before his eventual move to the London Stadium. His tendency to get forward and support the attack – he has nine goals and 12 assists in 136 appearances in the division below the Premier League – would help soften the blow of losing Holgate and allow the Baggies to kick on from where they left off last term.” 

Charles Jones “I’m not convinced Byram is a good signing for West Brom. The right-back showed so much promise earlier in his career, but none of that potential has been fulfilled. His last loan spell in the Championship was a bit of a disaster as he made just six league appearances for Nottingham Forest due to injury problems. Byram is by no means a bad player, but with the Baggies aiming for a return to the Premier League his injury record ultimately means his addition would be too risky. He is 25 and his career is in serious danger of stalling. One of Slaven Bilic’s first tasks as he gets to work at West Brom will surely be to replace Dwight Gayle.

Albion have already made it abundantly clear that they won’t be able to bring the striker back after his fantastic 24 goal season last term.

But with the news that Jay Rodriguez may well leave too, there is a reason to suggest that during the transfer window they need an entirely new frontline.

Bearing that in mind, here are three former academy players they may well now be wishing they never let go.

Kemar Roofe

With the possibility of having no Gayle or Rodriguez next season, Kemar Roofe would now be incredibly useful to West Brom. Arguably he is one of the biggest talents to have escaped their grasp in recent years.

The forward left the Baggies in 2015 for Oxford United when Albion were still in the Premier League. At that point, it wouldn’t have felt like a loss but now a proven Championship performer, he would be ideal for a Baggies side chasing promotion next season.

He scored 14 goals last season for Leeds, building on an impressive couple of terms with the Whites after previously netting 17 and claiming ten assists in 40 League Two outings for Oxford United.

It’s that kind of record that West Brom are crying out for next season, particularly from a player who can also play on the flanks, an area that needs to be improved.

Tyler Roberts

For similar reasons, West Brom will now surely be cursing their luck with Tyler Roberts. His record wasn’t outstanding last season, scoring just three times, but his talent is evident in the fact he started 28 times for one of the Championship’s outstanding sides.

Claiming six assists, the versatile forward is the type of player the Baggies missed last season.

He has the ability to play on the flanks, through the middle and as a number ten. With the likes of Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero failing to deliver last term, he could have been a real difference maker.

He’s now proven himself capable in the Championship and could have been a real asset for Bilic if he stuck around. As it happens, he was another academy prospect to bite the dust.

Izzy Brown

Hold onto Izzy Brown will have been incredibly difficult when Chelsea came calling but the fact remains that Albion would have been far better off by keeping him.

His performances since moving, however, have been extremely disappointing, scoring just nine senior goals.

But that shouldn’t distract from the fact he still has plenty of talent.

After all, he’s scored 11 and assisted ten in just 37 Premier League 2 outings. For a Baggies team who lacked creativity after Harvey Barnes left, Brown would now surely be crucial for them.

With West Brom needing to add bodies in the final third, they could now be left ruing the decisions they made in years gone by.

ويشير التقرير نقلاً عن صحيفة “موندو ديبورتيفو” إلى أن وكيل أجويرو، أجرى بالفعل محادثات مع المرشحين لرئاسة برشلونة ومع بعض أعضاء الأمانة الفنية الحالية للفريق الكتالوني.

أجويرو هو خيار يتم تحليله بقوة في الفريق بقيادة رونالد كومان، خاصة لأنه سيصل دون الحاجة إلى دفع أموال.

After Helder Costa joined Leeds on loan it was evident that Wolves would need to sign a new forward ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

They were already needing to add bodies to a squad that lacked depth last term but now it’s become even more vital for Nuno Santo.

Wolves Bite have already laid claims that the manager will look to keep his squad small next season but they are still reportedly in the market for a striker.

Could Carlos Vinicius be their man? Only time will tell, but the Brazilian could be involved in a €20m (£17.9m) switch to the Midlands. That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, who claim Wolves have already watched him in action.

The Napoli man spent the first half of last season on loan at Rio Ave before then playing the second half of the campaign at Monaco. In total he scored ten goals over the course of the season.

Yet it was in Portugal where he started to find his feet in the professional game. In Liga NOS, he lit up the division, scoring eight goals in 14 outings.

We’ve already stated the player has work to do to improve in terms of the number of unsuccessful touches he has, but from his time with Rio Ave there is a major area where he was especially good.

It’s crucial to understand that Vinicius was, of course, playing in a division below the Premier League’s quality. As of 2018/19, Portugal sat five places below England in the coefficient rankings.

But despite that, he was still hugely impressive, having 2.7 shots per game during his loan spell with Rio Ave, regularly appearing in positions where he was able to have an effort on goal.

And it’s that area that could benefit Wolves hugely.

Last term, Raul Jimenez was at the top of the tree for that statistic, averaging 2.9 shots every 90 minutes.

But Diogo Jota is significantly worse than the pair of them, having 1.8 shots on average.

The Portuguese is a player who tends to play far deeper and likes to run at the defence but Vinicius could change this and give the club a more direct goal threat to go alongside their 17-goal Mexican.

Although there is room to be concerned after scoring just twice at Monaco, his form at Rio Ave is evidence of the positives he can bring.

In one game against Feirense in January he had a huge seven shots on goal. He then had a further six, scoring twice, in a 2-1 with over Boavista.

He was a regular goal threat and even if he isn’t always scoring, constantly testing the goalkeeper can never be a bad thing.
