Tottenham fans react to Son Heung-Min performance against Borussia Dortmund

[ad_pod ]Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Son Heung-Min put in a terrific performance against Borussia Dortmund, as Spurs took one step into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over the Bundesliga leaders. The South Korean international, who has truly stepped up in the absence of Harry Kane and Dele Alli, scored a terrific volley against Lucian Favre’s side to open the scoring – his ninth goal against them means he has netted against Dortmund more than any other club throughout his career.Son’s strike was his 11th goal from the last 16 games, and he has truly emerged from the shadows to become one of Spurs’ most important players. Most of the north London-based club’s supporters probably feared the worst when Kane and Alli suffered their respective injuries, but the former Bayer Leverkusen forward is helping them forget all about the English duo.Let’s see how the Spurs supporters reacted on Twitter…

Everton fans want Romelu Lukaku back at Goodison Park

[ad_pod ]

Everton fans have called on their club’s director of football Marcel Brands to attempt to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United in this summer’s transfer window.

Lukaku managed 87 goals in 166 appearances for Everton between 2013 and 2017 before moving to United ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The Belgium international struck 27 goals in all competitions for United last term, but has netted just nine this season.

Marcus Rashford has been preferred in the centre-forward position since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as head coach in December.

As a result, Lukaku has mainly been restricted to a bit-part role.

The 25-year-old did start his team’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday, though, and put in a decent-enough performance.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

Rashford’s excellent form could well end Lukaku’s United career, however, and a number of Everton fans have called on their club to re-sign the powerful forward.

Newcastle fans lavish praise on Longstaff

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle United fans have lavished praise on Sean Longstaff after his excellent display in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

The 5 foot 11 midfielder scored his first Premier League goal against the Clarets after Fabian Schar’s screamer to give the Magpies all three points.

Longstaff subsequently took to Twitter on Wednesday to reminisce, posting a picture of him shooting at goal along with the caption: “What a night, big three points.”

Newcastle are now closer to 10th than 18th after their second win in a row, having also beaten Huddersfield Town, and face Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United this weekend.

Longstaff has made his first-team breakthrough under Rafael Benitez this season, playing 12 times in all competitions. Such has been his meteoric rise, he has also played 13 times for the Under-23s this season.

And, following his tweet, Newcastle fans have lavished praise on the 21-year-old, who is a local lad, having been born in North Shields.

Between The Lines: Jurgen Klopp rues missed opportunity

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool failed to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table on Sunday. Ultimately, Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasers had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

After the match, Klopp was clearly regretful that his side had failed to claim what might have been a crucial three points.

What he said

After the match, the German coach told Sky Sports, as quoted by the BBC, that “on days when United are beatable you have to do it…We expect to play better football. It is a point at United and everybody feels it could have been more.”

Would you rather your club won the Premier League or Champions League? In the video below, Pl>ymaker FC’s Matty believes English clubs have already decided…

The Reds failed to create a great number of goalscoring opportunities against United, and generally lacked rhythm, invention and incision in their play.

Whilst they’re still top of the league, a single point ahead of reigning champions Manchester City, they face tough tests against in-form Watford and bitter local rivals Everton this week.

A warning

Klopp’s comments suggests that he is aware of the significance of the points his side dropped against the Red Devils. He will know that this is a draw that Liverpool might live to regret.

His squad should read these comments as a warning. The need for Liverpool to remain focused is now more intense than ever. The Reds cannot afford many, if any, more disappointments likes this if they’re to finally become Premier League champions this season.

The pressure of the title race is cranking up with every passing round of fixtures. The signs of nervousness are starting to show at Anfield in the shape of lacklustre, toothless performances. Klopp must act quickly to restore calm and confidence amongst his ranks, before it’s too late.

Samu Saiz will not return to Leeds

[ad_pod ]According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United star Samu Saiz will seek a permanent switch to another La Liga side if his loan stay with Getafe isn’t made permanent this summer.

What’s the story?

Getafe have an option – but not an obligation – to buy Saiz this summer. However, as the 28-year-old has not impressed so far in his time at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, it is unlikely that the Spanish outfit will elect to take up this option.

Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so…

However, this state of affairs does not pave the way for the attacking midfielder to return to the fold at Elland Road. Saiz left the Whites in January citing personal reasons. He was clearly unsettled in England, so going back to plying his trade for the Yorkshire club isn’t really an option.

On top of that, trusted journalist Phil Hay has said on Twitter that Marcelo Bielsa wouldn’t want the Spaniard back anyway, this term at least.

Time to find a replacement

With Saiz’s time at Elland Road sure to be over then, the Whites must be ready for life without him.

Since he left the club in January, Leeds have coped very well. They’re still in the thick of the Championship title race and hopeful of securing promotion to the Premier League. If they do make the jump this season, then in the summer the 28-year-old must still be replaced.

The attacker brought a great deal of flair, guile, creativity and technical ability to Bielsa’a side. He would have been an asset in the top flight. The Yorkshire outfit need his attributes to be replaced this summer – a big but important job.Â

Palace fans react as club make poorly-timed, infuriating announcement

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Brighton on Saturday, offering a performance far removed from their excellent display away at Burnley last week.

For other football fans, the bizarrely-named M23 derby – although the Palace and Brighton faithful detest to call it that – is a pointless one, however it is a huge game for the two clubs involved.

The loss at Selhurst Park, therefore, is gutting for Eagles fans who surely would have felt that their beloved club would understand the pain they are feeling this week – that doesn’t seem the case, though.

In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…

On Monday, Palace announced that season tickets for the 19/20 campaign are now available to be renewed and it’s safe to say that the SE25 faithful were less than pleased with the timing, let alone the fact that the prices had been upped.

The Eagles’ defeat on Saturday was their eighth at home of the season – a record which would surely see them relegated if not for their solid away form – and Palace fans on Twitter were rightfully angered by the ill-timed announcement…

Do we? Don’t we? Liverpool fans are torn over a move for Leicester’s James Maddison

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans on Twitter have been discussing a move for Leicester star James Maddison, debating whether or not the Englishman would be a good fit for the club after impressing so far this season.

The 22-year-old signed for the Foxes from Norwich for a fee of around £20m back in the summer, having impressed for the Canaries in the previous campaign with 14 goals and eight assists in 44 Championship appearances.

How did Mane score THAT goal against Bayern last week? Did he dazzle them with Firmino’s teeth? 442oons speculate in the video below…

Maddison has carried that form into the Premier League with six goals and six assists so far, his latest effort catching the eye of spectators due to the pure technique on show – a wonderful, curled free-kick into the top left corner against Burnley.

The Reds have lacked a potent No.10 in midfield since the departure of Philippe Coutinho, and much has been made of the current midfield’s lack of creativity.

Naturally, as Jurgen Klopp’s midfield carries more pragmatic types such as James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, fans are keen to see a more forward-thinking option, hence the debate over a potential move for Maddison.

Let’s see what the Liverpool supporters are saying about the Foxes’ No.10 on Twitter…

Luton reportedly eyeing excellent deal for Graeme Shinnie

[ad_pod ]

Luton Town are lining up a possible move for Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie in the summer, according to the Daily Express.

Shinnie will become a free agent at the end of the season and has also been linked with a potential move to SPL rivals Rangers.

What’s the word?

Shinnie has been at Aberdeen since 2015, making 182 appearances for the club.

He currently captains the Dons but his contract is nearing expiry; the Express report that he has been made an offer to stay, should he wish to.

However, they also state that Shinnie is aware he may not get another chance to move to England, having spent the entirety of his career in Scotland.

His brother, Andrew, currently plays for Luton and they are interested in pairing the two up, particularly if they win promotion to the Championship.

The Hatters are five points clear of second-placed Barnsley in League One and appear well set to seal the title this season.

Indeed, the Express claim that they could blow Aberdeen out of the water with their offer if they are promoted, while Shinnie is said to have already ruled out the prospect of a move to Rangers.

A massive coup

Luton signing the captain of an SPL side and a full Scotland international – he has won four caps – would be a brilliant piece of business, particularly if there is no transfer fee attached.

Shinnie has played 41 times this season, scoring four goals and laying on four assists in all competitions.

Luton’s interest, then, is hardly a surprise but it remains to be seen if the deal will be completed.

Aberdeen are trying to keep their skipper around but the lure of familial ties and a tilt at the Championship may prove too hard to resist.

It would be the perfect start to a season in the second-tier, that is for sure.

Managers appreciate Osborn: Nottingham Forest fans debate intriguing statistic

[ad_pod ]

Versatile Forest man Ben Osborn is a player who’s sparked differing opinions from the City Ground faithful this season.

More debate has now arisen over the player with journalist Paul Taylor revealing a rather intriguing statistic about the 24-year-old.

Taylor worked out the stat following comments made by Reds manager Martin O’Neill about Osborn, with the Irishman labelling him top class and comparing him to club stalwart Ian Bowyer.

But fans didn’t take too kindly to the stat which was shared on Twitter, slamming the fact that he had turned out during one of the worst periods in their history.

The left-sided player took a fair amount of heat, with one supporter taking issue that no manager, despite how in favour he was with the large majority of them, had actually achieved any success from picking him.

Osborn has started 26 games in the Championship this season and has registered five assists.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Phil Foden a symbol of Manchester City’s imminent domination

Manchester City’s Phil Foden is a legend in the making after turning down reports to move to Germany.

Phil Foden has committed himself to the grind of trying to break into one of the most star-studded line-ups of the modern era, despite receiving offers from elsewhere.

The Daily Mail understand that the Englishman has drawn interest from a number of German clubs, including Champions League candidates Red Bull Leipzig, who have previously housed Everton starlet Ademola Lookman, intending to take him on a season-long loan move.

Jadon Sancho has singlehandedly set the bar for young players moving abroad. Indeed having seen the current Dortmund star and the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi both making their England debuts this season, Foden must surely be wondering why he has been given so few opportunities to shine, especially when he has performed so well in the past.

Pep Guardiola has apparently drawn criticism for providing too few chances to the 18-year-old, despite claiming a piecemeal approach is necessary for managing the player.

His admission from the Manchester City set up is yet to affect his future plans at the Etihad, and the youth international is said to already be planning for an ambitious breakthrough during the 2019-20 campaign, with club sources claiming he will be adopting extra responsibility from the closely managed David Silva (Daily Mail).

‘It’s important he knows he is able to play with us and he knows we can trust him,’ Guardiola said. ‘Every season he will be stronger and stronger. He’s an incredible talent but he still has a lot of things to improve.’

The City prodigy, who is a lifelong supporter of the club, and values living close at home, is said to have no intention of moving anytime soon – and this news should excite fans no end.

Very few prospects have made it from the academy into the senior team, the last significant one being Micah Richards over a decade ago, and fans are surely desperate to attach themselves to another ‘one of their own’.
